Representatives from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia pledged to address autism in their respective countries. India's Congress Party chief Sonia Gandhi opened this conference and stressed the importance of addressing autism in South Asia. She estimated that nearly 8 million Indians are diagnosed with autism, and the conference endorsed the 'priority actions' to meet the healthcare and communication needs of children with autism.
